We are so glad you are visiting us! If you have anu questions or would like more details, click on the site that interests you, and hopefully you will find what you are looking for. The Fairmont Orchestra program starts in 5th Grade. We have a Beginning Orchestra, Elementary Advanced Orchestra, J.H. Orchestra and H.S. Orchestra. We love performing for the community, so please let us know if you would like some strings playing for your event.

Junior High Orchestra
J.H. Course Description: J.H. Orchestra consists of all the string instruments. In order to perform with the Orchestra, teacher approval is necessary. A student must have at least two years of experience, before entering this orchestra. A 30 minute weekly lesson is required for all Orchestra students. Three concerts and one recital is given every year. See Learning Targets below.

5th and 6th Grade Learning Targets
5th Grade Orchestra Course Description This is the beginning Orchestra. This orchestra performs 2 concerts and 1 Recital each year. A 30 minute lesson is given to each student on a weekly basis. Instruments may be rented or purchased. See Learning Targets below for more information.
6th Grade Orchestra Course Description: Students in this orchestra have had one year of experience. They are just completing or have completed book One of "New Directions for Strings". They have mastered four scales and are auditioned for seating. They perform two concerts and one recital per year. See Learning Targets below for more information,

Meet our Director!
Mrs. Berkeland has been with the Fairmont Schools for 12 years. She is married and has three children and two dogs. Her husband is the Pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. She holds a Masters Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Assessment. Prior to coming to Fairmont, she was the Vocal Director and Music Teacher for the St. Clair, Red Wing and Goodhue Schools, In her free time, she loves to read, play the cello, participate in church activities and anything that has to do with "creating" She has all the Orchestras in Fairmont, grades 5-12 and loves working with such talented students!
