Mrs. Jody Uttech

My name is Jody Uttech, and I teach reading intervention classes at Fairmont Elementary for first through sixth graders. As an interventionist, it is my job to formulate and implement individualized learning plans to accelerate the reading competency of students.

I grew up in New Richland, Minnesota, graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, and received my masters and Reading Specialist degree from Minnesota State University - Mankato. I also have extensive training from the Minnesota Learning Research Center in Minneapolis.

For two years I taught 4th grade in Adams, North Dakota, and then I taught grades 1-4 at St. James Lutheran School in Northrop for 2 1/2 years. In 1996, the year before I came to Fairmont, I taught mainly fourth grade in East Chain along with language arts for 5th and 6th graders.  While in Fairmont I originally taught remedial reading to 5th - 7th graders, then moved to William Budd where I taught reading to first and second graders, and finally began my current reading intervention position at Fairmont Elementary.

My husband Rick and I live in East Chain where we raised four children.  Our son Ryan now lives in New Prague with his wife Betsy and sons Benjamin and Samuel.  Our daughter Shelly lives in East Chain with her husband Kirk and children Caleb, Luke, Jeremiah,Timothy, and Lydia.  Our daughter Jennie lives in Minneapolis, and our daughter Katy and her husband Andy live near East Chain with their son, David.

I  love to read!  Helping children learn to read is such a joy!

Spending time with my family is my favorite past-time.  Family vacations are the best!

Best way to contact me is through my e-mail at or call the school office at 238-4487. Best times to be reached are 7:30 - 8:00 or 3:30 - 4:00.
